Mount Rainier, also known as Tahoma, is a large active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest in the United States. The mountain is located in Mount Rainier National Park about 59 miles south-southeast of Seattle.
It takes a little bit of luck to capture the mountain shadows because the sun must be far enough south on the horizon to tuck in behind the mountains in the late fall and winter months. To serve as the shadow’s easel, you also need a strong mid-level cloud deck, which you can locate in the hours before rain hits. Later in the day, that was indeed on the schedule.
